MediGuard is designed to give patients a tool to learn more about their medications and closely monitor what they take. The website provide a wealth of information that can shed light on how multiple drugs interact as well as how a drug interacts with a disease or condition. Users can set up email alerts to receive safety information about specific medications. Members can also share their experience with a medication in the form of feedback. Other users can read feedback to see what kind of side effects other patients have experienced when taking the same medications. MediGuard also gives users printable lists of the medications they are currently taking. The site lets the user search for medications alphabetically, by name or search for topics by condition. MediGuard currently boasts over 2,520,000 members in its online community.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

MediGuard was founded in October of 2007. It was created to provide a consumer medication monitoring service. The company is currently based out of Parsippany, New Jersey and includes the President and founder Hugo Stephenson as well as Head of Operations Elisa Cascade. Today thousands of patients use MediGuard to learn more about their medications.

What makes MediGuard so helpful is the addition of user-created feedback on medication side effects as well as details about how medications interact with one another and diseases. How does the web app look and feel to use?

The MediGuard website welcomes users with a blue and orange color scheme that gives it a friendly personality. The homepage features color images of happy senior citizens. Five blue buttons make up the bottom of the website header and can help users access each area on the website. A search bar is also provided beside the buttons so users can jump right to specific medications.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can join the MediGuard community by clicking the orange “Register” button in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The following page contains the registration form along the left hand side. Six fields at the top of the orange form ask the user for the medications they are currently taking. This will sign them up for interaction checks, recalls and safety alert information for those medications. Users can add additional medications after completing registration. The bottom of the form asks the user for an email address, password, gender, age and zip code. The user must also check a box at the bottom of the form that confirms their agreement with the MediGuard terms of service and privacy policy. After submitting the form, the user is advised that they must check their email for an activation message to complete registration.

What does it cost to use the application?

MediGuard welcomes all users for free. The application does not require a subscription or other fee to access. Users can add numerous medications to their alert list and explore the site as much as they like. This is definitely a good choice to help encourage users to become active members of the MediGuard online community.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Anyone who takes multiple medications can appreciate MediGuard.org. The site is an excellent source of information and provides a number of valuable tools to its users. The site seems geared more towards an older crowd; however there are no age restrictions.
